Pre-Course Task:

Once registered coaches will receive a short pre-course task a minimum 2 weeks prior to the event, inclusive of reflective prompts to encourage coaches to explore their understanding of the intended content prior to the session

Synthesis Tasks:

To encourage coaches to move learning from the short term memory to the long term memory, a number of synthesis activities, together with learning resources will be sent post course to encourage the recall and retention of information.

CIMSPA

All Coach Development Days are endorsed by CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for Sport & Physical Activity) carrying a weighting of 1½ a CPD point.

Attending coaches will be automatically uploaded onto the CIMSPA portal to recognise their attendance for the event (Full name and email) and offered membership if not already done so.  Those not wanting to be uploaded onto the portal should make Coach Centered aware of their decision.

Meet the Coaches

Ricky Pellow

Former Skills Coach at Exeter Chiefs

Ricky Pellow is an experienced rugby coach and former professional scrum-half, whose playing career included Bath, where he was part of the club’s 1997/98 Heineken Cup-winning squad, as well as spells with Worcester Warriors, Cornish Pirates and Mounts Bay RFC.

He is best known for his long and influential spell with Exeter Chiefs, joining the club’s coaching staff in 2009 as skills coach. During his time at Exeter, the club secured promotion from the Championship in 2010, won Premiership Rugby titles in 2017 and 2020, lifted the European Champions Cup in 2020, and claimed domestic cup honours in 2014, 2019 and 2022.

Joe Walsh

Lead Forwards and Defence Coach at Cornish Pirates

Joe Walsh is the Lead Forwards and Defence Coach at the Cornish Pirates, appointed in April 2024 and retained for the 2025/26 season.

An Irish coach with a strong performance analysis background, Joe has worked across both pathway and international rugby. His experience includes under-20 coaching roles with MU Barnhall RFC and Buccaneers RFC, as well as serving as Performance Analyst for the Poland national team during the 2023 Rugby Europe Championship.

He has also contributed to player development within Rugby Academy Ireland, working with Leinster U17 Schools, and was appointed Director of Rugby at Catholic University School in Dublin in 2024.

Joe holds an MSc in Sports Performance Analysis, the IRFU Stage 4 (Performance Coach) Award, and is a World Rugby Coach Educator.
